This national historic landmark is the oldest continually operating public market in Washington, D.C. You’ll find a community of vendors selling meats, cheeses, baked goods, fruits and vegetables as well as the Market Lunch, a counter-top restaurant that makes an amazing fried oyster sandwich. On Saturdays and Sundays, the market spills out on to the street as artists, artisans and vendors hawk their wares at the flea market. Farmers from Delaware, Pennsylvania, Maryland, and Virginia also come to the Market to sell fresh locally-grown produce.

Insider Info: The best days to go to the Market are Saturday and Sunday because you will see the most vendors. Also, come hungry so that you can eat at Market Lunch or build your own sandwich piece by piece from the butchers and bakers.
