This spot is where Faulkner wrote his first novel, Soldier’s Pay. He is also said to have heartily participated in New Orleans’ age old ritual: drinking. Today, the literary locale is the home of a bookstore dedicated to the old Southern Master – carrying not only a careful selection of his books, but a wide array of other used, new, and rare books. For the bookish, it’s interesting to note that this is the very place where the writer Sherwood Anderson (Faulkner’s neighbor at the time) convinced Faulkner to make the change from poetry to prose. In addition, it was a New Orleans journal, The Double Dealer, that was the first to publish WF.
